Pewter & Wood Antiques’ Silent Auction Benefit is March 19

On Saturday, March 19, Pewter & Wood Antiques in Cave Creek will hold its annual Silent Auction from 1 to 2 p.m. to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. The auction is open to the public and an Open House will also take place the same day from 1 to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Shop owner Barbara Boardman Johnson said, “This will be our 10th year for the Silent Auction and the goal is to raise $10,000 to mark this special milestone!”

Incredible donations are coming in from all over the country—from dealers and collectors alike—and selections from Pewter & Wood Antique’s inventory and Barbara’s own private collection will also be in the auction. Close to one hundred items from 1790 to the early 1900s along with some reproductions have been donated thus far—with values ranging from $10 to $4500—and more are coming in daily. This Silent Auction can be a wonderful opportunity to pick up some unique gift items at reasonable prices.

Barbara says, “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of clients and fellow dealers across the country. What has been donated to this cause is absolutely amazing. Some people have been touched by Alzheimer’s, others not, but all have opened up their closets.”

A few of the antiques in the auction include a painted cupboard, pewter, a painted cradle, two rocking chairs and other chairs, paintings and samplers, unique graduated set of 3 red wing stoneware jars—and more.

Photos and details of auction items along with bidding instructions will be posted on March 12 on the shop’s website at www.pewterandwoodantiques.com under ‘2016 Alzheimer’s Benefit.’ Bidding can be done via phone before and during the auction, via email at info@pewterandwoodantiques.com until March 18 or by attending in person.

Barbara will continue accepting donations until March 5 and she will provide pick up for most local items if needed. If you have any questions about donating items, give Barbara a call. Donors will be given receipts for tax purposes.

All proceeds go directly to the Alzheimer’s Association – Desert Southwest Chapter (www.alz.org/dsw) for research. Payment from successful bidders must be by check payable to the Association. Raising funds for Alzheimer’s research is very important to Barbara because her mother was diagnosed with the disease in 1995 and passed away in December 2011. Last year’s event raised $7,361 so it is hoped that this 10th year’s goal of $10,000 will be exceeded!

Formed in 1980, the Alzheimer’s Association advances research to end Alzheimer’s and dementia while enhancing care for those living with the disease. Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death and the only one among the top ten in the U.S. that cannot presently be prevented, cured or even slowed. Raising funds for research is critically important. To learn more, go to www.alz.org.
