Christmas is a great time for antique malls to build customer and dealer rapport and the 22nd Street Antique Mall in Tucson is a good example. The second annual Christmas blowout extravaganza in 2014 will utilize the entire second floor of one of the buildings—and is spectacular, fun and beautiful!
The Annex has a second story of over 5,000 square feet with 25-plus booths and dealers reserve their favorite booths months in advance. In November, booths are decorated with festive trees, garlands and other holiday ornaments. Dealers usually have lots of Christmas goods to display for sale and the booths glow with the Christmas spirit.
The festive nature is enhanced with well-known Christmas music playing in the background. Dealers, who are regularly in the mail during Xmas Loft to assist customers, often bring in cookies and candy to share, adding to a fun atmosphere. The Christmas Loft is open during November and December.
The Christmas transformation is a “feel-good” annual event, which also sells the Mall based on input that has been received. There is a “Dealer Potluck” on the second Sunday of December that has been hosted for 10 years and attracts nearly 100 persons each year.
The rest of the year, this floor has rental booths and consignment areas.
22nd Street Antique Mall is certified as a site where paranormal activity has been experienced—several paranormal investigative groups have tested the Mall as “positive.” A journal in which employees, customers and dealers have chronicled ghostly experiences contains over 175 entries! There is even a full chapter in Scarizona, a book about spook-sites in the state.
The mall’s TV commercials are enhanced accordingly with the comment, “You may not see Marley’s ghost but you’ll have a Dickens of a time shopping here.”
